Khari Turner,
born April 26, 1991 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Now a much sought after rising art star with a distinctively personal style. Spring of 2015 Khari left Milwaukee for Tennessee to study Studio Art, finding artistic inspiration from his hometown especially in water. He spent a lot of time near the water, which manifests in his work by creating a deeper connection to [his] identity and history as a Black American. “Metaphorically, I see Black people as personifications of the magic that is the ocean.” He also juxtaposes the lips, noses, and occasionally hands and varying adornments in high detail against the natural ambiguity of the rest of the subjects’ figure, which he creates using water from different sources and locations, including ocean water, Milwaukee River water, and water from Lower Manhattan Harbors. Khari is now a 2021 Masters in Fine Art graduate from Columbia University. He has received over 12 scholarships including the Shops Fellowship (Columbia), participated in numerous group & solo shows since 2017.
