Pop Up Art
For the fourth time, Stockholm Konst - an organisation working on art that enriches our public spaces – are arranging a summer exhibition of pop-up public artworks. This time it coincides with Sweden celebrating 100 years of full democracy (women won the right to vote in 1921), which is the theme of this year’s exhibition. As anti-democratic forces become more prevalent, questions arise over who should control public spaces, and how we handle the commercial interests that intrude into those spaces. Participating artists and designers have used personal experiences as a springboard for putting the spotlight on the existing challenges we face.
The art and design collective Swedish Girls are four alumni from Beckman’s School of Design, and they have two artworks in this year’s exhibition. A stage sculpture on Holger Blom’s Torg where various performances will take place, and secondly, another meeting spot in the shape of a park bench where they have invited graffiti collective BOYS to be co-creators. You’ll find the result on Bergsgatan.
The exhibition is ongoing until September 12, go to https://www.stockholmkonst.se/sommarutstallning/ for more info.
