NING VS NAMWAN, THAKSIN DATE, MANAO NO MISTRESS, LUCKY NUMBER

-

Love rivals clash in restaurant Socialite Warrapan ‘‘Namwan’’ Pankongchuen is appealing to police after an actress and 10 of her friends allegedly assaulted her in a city restaurant.

Namwan’s mother, Ampaipan, yesterday accused actress and model Panita ‘‘Ning’’ Tumwattana and her sister Nan of leading the attack.

Likening the cat fight to a scene from a soap opera, Mrs Ampaipan said Nan hit her daughter with a mobile phone and then fell to the floor in front of astonished diners, claiming Namwan had struck her first.

She said Namwan’s friends witnessed the fight and chased Ning from the restaurant.

Mrs Ampaipan said Namwan had gone to eat after visiting her in hospital, where she had had just an operation.

Ning has yet to respond, though Nan has published a picture on Instagram of herself with a scratched wrist, saying it was she who was assaulted.

Ning is married to businessman Jin Tumwattana, who offered a public apology earlier this year for having an affair with Namwan.

Mrs Ampaipan said Ning, evidently still angry about the affair, took out her frustrations on Namwan.

The Manager/ASTV newspaper carried images of Namwan in hospital nursing a black eye. Namwan and her family were preparing to lodge a complaint with Thong Lor police last night.

Namwan, 22, the Bangkokeducated daughter of a Chiang Mai hotel and pub owner, was visiting the US in March when news of her liaison with Jin went public.

Mrs Ampaipan inadvertently identified her daughter as Jin’s fling when she published on Instagram an intimate online exchange between the pair.

She said yesterday she had chosen to make the matter public, despite her daughter’s pleas to keep the restaurant assault out of the news.

‘‘My daughter came to my crying, saying she wanted to stay quiet about her ordeal, but I blew a fuse. The affair is over, but the other side is not prepared to let it go,’’ she said.

‘‘No mother on this Earth would tolerate seeing her daughter in such a state. We do not associate with gangsters. We’d rather flee than have anything to do with them. But I am afraid if we do not act, the other side will get more daring and step up the attacks.’’

Mrs Ampaipan said Namwan had visited her in hospital on the day of the clash. ‘‘I had just left the operating theatre and was still asleep. Namwan went nearby to eat when Ning and the others approached her,’’ she said.

She said Namwan’s eye was swollen and she was having trouble seeing clearly. A doctor had told her to have it examined. DJ Man defends girlfriend Sexy singer Suteewan ‘‘Baitoey’’ Thaveesin is still smarting over the fuss caused by revelations she sang overseas twice for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, her boyfriend says.

Baitoey has been stressed since the news broke, as she didn’t anticipate the reaction, her boyfriend, DJ Pattanapol ‘‘Man’’ Kunchorn na Ayutthaya, said.

‘‘She is still a youngster and tends to speak directly,’’ he said. ‘‘I have suggested she thinks before she speaks next time. But I am confident the public will forgive her, as she did nothing wrong.’’

Baitoey, known for her micro shorts and sexy dancing, told reporters that she had performed for the former premier on two occasions, in Hong Kong and Singapore, earning 500,000 baht for each show.

Thaksin has good ties with her recording label, RS Promotion, and regularly calls on its artists to perform, she said. ‘‘I sang, dined and had a casual conversation with him,’’ Baitoey said. ‘‘He’s a good man and he did not know me before, since he has been living abroad.

‘‘I sympathised with him because he misses Thai music and wanted to return to his homeland. I did my duty to make him feel like he was back in Thailand.’’

She said Thaksin’s handlers took her shopping for a brand-name bag. A property company tied to the Thaksin family has also given her a discount on a 20-million-baht home she bought recently.

Man said Baitoey wasn’t taking political sides when she praised Thaksin.

‘‘While her admission that she dined with Thaksin at the function might look a little racy, I am sure most people will understand that nothing happened,’’ he said.

Man last week published on his Instagram account a picture of himself holding a gun, accompanied by the message: ‘‘Why don’t you go do something else, if you are so idle. Be a man. I can teach you if you don’t know how.’’

He denied the picture was a jealous response to the Thaksin saga. He merely wanted to send a warning to young men who might think about showing undue interest in his girlfriend.

Baitoey has praised Man for his loyalty, telling him on social media that ‘‘No one compares with you’’. Actress Sornsilp ‘‘Manao’’ Maneewan denies she has a thing for older men, after unkind souls spread on social media a picture of herself in the embrace of an elderly former prime minister.

Manao last week lodged a complaint with Technology Crime Suppression Division police over the picture of her sitting on a sofa with ex-premier and Chartthaipattana Party chief adviser, Banharn Silpaarcha, 81.

Manao, 21, said she published the picture of herself with Mr Banharn, who has his hand around her shoulder, on her Instagram account, before someone copied it with illintent.

‘‘I am not his mistress, nor pregnant by him, and nor have I caused his family to break up,’’ she said in response to social media chatter about the picture.

She said she respected Mr Banharn as the godfather of Suphan Buri. She comes from that province, and is a recipient of an education scholarship from a charity in his name. They have known each other for years.

She posed for the picture with Mr Banharn at the provincial football club’s VIP room during the July 7 match between Suphan Buri FC and Buriram United.

Her boyfriend, Kawin Thamsatchanan, who is a goalkeeper for the national team, sympathised with her plight, but she was still finding public reaction to the saga hard to endure.

‘‘Wherever I go, people are looking at me and gossiping. I feel dreadful. But I am trying not to think about it,’’ she said.

Mr Banharn’s son, Worawut, who suspects the internet culprit is also trying to discredit his dad, had called her to give her moral support.

Manao said police were working with the Information and Communication Technology Ministry to trace those responsible. Who can press Tang’s buttons? Actor Saksit ‘‘Tang’’ Tangtong says he still hopes to find the right girl, but finds his number has yet to come up.

Renowned bachelor Tang, 47, says he refuses to believe fortune tellers’ predictions that, such is his bad karma from a previous life, he is destined to spend life as a single man.

‘‘I am talking to some girls and could end up finding a mate before long — though I have waited many years now without success,’’ he admitted.

‘‘Most of the women I meet tend to be younger than me. I would prefer someone older, as we could talk together more easily.’’

Tang himself has earned a modest reputation by predicting friends’ fortunes based on their mobile phone numbers.

It works so well, he has even tried it out on himself.

‘‘I change numbers regularly, until I find one which I think might help improve my fortunes. But really, I think we are responsible for 80% of our own luck. If we work hard and live well, good things will follow,’’ he said.

A friend gave him a book on the scientology of numbers a couple of years ago, and he had been reading the fortunes of those he meets on set of his television soap operas ever since.

‘‘I don’t want to get too serious about it, as there are plenty of fortune tellers out there who have been studying it for longer than me. I offer it to help those short of money or luck,’’ he joked.

Despite changing his phone number regularly, he has yet to find a lucky one which leads him to a love interest.

‘‘I am determined to try for a mate. However, I admit it probably wont be a lightning wedding,’’ he joked.
