Govt gives war veterans B91m boost

Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has approved a 91-million-baht budget increase in living cost allowances and medical welfare benefits for war veterans and their families.

Ms Yingluck made the decision in her capacity as chairwoman of the council of the War Veterans Organisati­on of Thailand.

She made the announceme­nt during her first meeting with the council yesterday.

Chaiwat Sathondee said.

With the new benefits, 3,200 first-level disabled veterans will be granted a living cost allowance of 4,000 baht each, up from 3,500 baht a month.

Their families will be entitled to 3,500 baht each, up from 3,000 baht.

The organisati­on will also pay medical bills for all veterans and families amounting to 3,000 baht each a year, an increase from 2,000 baht.

The increased benefits coupled with pensions and grants from the Saijaithai Foundation will give each disabled veteran about 23,000 baht a month.
