GET BY WITH A LITTLE KELP FROM LA MER

-

Tomorrow is the last day of La Mer’s talk-of-the-town promotion by which the brand’s prestigious moisturisers can be purchased under an interest-free instalment plan for up to 10 months.

Moreover, an empty skincare jar of any other brand priced at or above 3,500 baht can be traded for a free sample.

This marketing tactic increases accessibility to the cult cream, which encourages the cosmetics industry to search for skincare ingredients from the world’s oceans where marine plants are able to survive extreme conditions and adapt to changing environments.

Former Nasa aerospace physicist Dr Max Huber succeeded in harnessing the renewal power of sea kelp, first to treat severe chemical burns from an accidental explosion during one of his experiments. It took him 12 years to come up with the perfect Creme de la Mer containing a bio-fermented blend of sea kelp ingredients, hailed as the Miracle Broth.

He picked sea kelp because of its natural ability to regenerate itself at a rate of up to 60cm a day in the prime growth seasons. Leaving the plant and its ecosystem intact, only the top fronds are carefully handharvested and shipped on ice to the Dr Max Huber Laboratories where the sea kelp is combined with other ingredients for a three to four month bio-fermentation process.

With his background in physics, Dr Huber introduced a revolutionary approach in enhancing plant energy by exposing the Miracle Broth to pulsating sound and light energy that mimics the sun and natural rhythm of waves at sea. Simply put, he made the sea kelp feel at home.

To maintain the authenticity and potent benefits of every batch, a small portion from the previous batch is added to the next, as the seed broth, which can be linked the original Miracle Broth. Understandably, this means the moisturiser comes with a hefty price tag.
