Fans of jazz legend Tony Bennett reunited happily in the Royal Ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok recently for a special charity dinner concert. Entitled ‘‘An Evening With Tony Bennett’’, the concert was organised by the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Foundation for Chitralada School in collaboration with the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand under the patronage of HM the King and BEC-Tero Entertainment. The aim was to raise funds to support the foundation’s education and community development activities. Former deputy prime minister Suwat Liptapanlop is the chairman of the organising committee.

The foundation was founded by Her Royal Highness to support the educational management of Chitralada School, which is a palace school. The school will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015 — the same year that Thailand will be celebrating the auspicious occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday.

‘‘Thanpuying Angkarb Boonyatthiti, director of Chitralada School came to see me and ask for my support on the fundraising project as my daughter was also a student of the school,’’ said Suwat. ‘‘I work with Brian Marcar of BEC-Tero Entertainment [who has] successfully invited many world-class entertainers such as Lady Gaga and Paul Anka to Thailand before. So this time we decided to bring in the world jazz legend Tony Bennett to delight all jazz lovers as well as the many Chitralada alumni.’’

Suwat, in his capacity as president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand, is widely known for his keen eye for bringing in celebrities and ambassadors from sport and the entertainment business to promote Thailand’s beauty to the world. Suwat’s guest list in the past includes tennis players like Rafael Nadal, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Andy Murray and Roger Federer. He also invited Tiger Woods to join the auspicious year of HM the King’s 84th birthday anniversary.
