Woman swindled by ‘army imposter’

A businesswoman has complained to police that a man posing as an army officer swindled her out of more than 5 million baht.

Kamolnan Sangket, a 47-year-old executive at bronze sculpture supplier Rock Ra Fine Arts Co, filed the complaint with the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) yesterday.

She told officers that she asked Rachata Suthornwipak, 24, to organise the purchase of a BMW car worth 3.7 million baht after Mr Rachata told her his relative held shares in a car dealership.

Mr Rachata wore an army uniform and claimed to be a son of former Army Region 4 chief Pisal Wattanawongkiri, Ms Kamolnan told police.

She said the suspect also claimed to know several prominent politicians and superstars.

Ms Kamolnan said she had also supplied numerous watches and luxury bags which she had purchased overseas to the suspect for resale.
