Datsyuk strikes in overtime to steer Red Wings to thrilling victory against Blues

>> ST LOUIS: Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk scored the overtime winner to give the Red Wings a valuable 3-2 road win at in-form St Louis on Friday.

The Red Wings moved into a share of second place in the NHL Atlantic Division with Montreal, who lost at Ottawa, and stayed three points ahead of Boston, who continued their form surge by beating the New York Rangers.

Toronto is slipping off the pace in the Atlantic, suffering a sixth defeat in seven games at San Jose.

Detroit completed a six-game road trip with a 4-2 mark thanks in part to goaltender Petr Mrazek, who made 25 saves and improved to 3-0 in four career appearance­s against St Louis.

Joakim Andersson and Tomas Tatar scored in a 60-second span in the second period to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead.

David Backes and Alexander Steen scored for St Louis, who had won their previous five. Steen scored with 47 seconds left in regulation to tie it 2-2.

Boston improved their winning streak to five by beating the Rangers 3-0.

Tuukka Rask stopped 30 shots for his second shutout, Patrice Bergeron scored a first-period goal, while David Krejci and Loui Eriksson also netted for the Bruins, who have earned points in nine consecutiv­e games. The Rangers have lost 3-0 in consecutiv­e games after winning 13 of 14.

Ottawa’s Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored his first goal of the season to help lead the Senators defeat Montreal 4-1. Mika Zibanejad, Erik Karlsson and Erik Condra also scored for the Senators.

Max Pacioretty scored the sole goal for the Canadiens.

San Jose’s Tyler Kennedy and Patrick Marleau scored goals 15 seconds apart in the first period to set up the Sharks’ 3-1 win against Toronto.

Tommy Wingels added an emptynet goal in the last minute for the Sharks, who had lost their previous nine games.

Roman Polak scored f or t he Maple Leafs, ending the team’s 133minute scoring drought, but it was not enough.

San Jose have won eight of their previous nine games against Toronto.

Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavelec made a season-high 46 saves to preserve the Jets’ 2-1 win at Dallas.

Pavelec made 22 of his saves in the second period, preserving what was then a 1-0 lead.

Michael Frolik scored a first-period goal, and Evander Kane added a shorthande­d clincher at 7:34 of the third during a Dallas power play.

Trevor Daley scored the Stars’ goal at 18:44 of the third period with the goalie pulled.

Colorado’s Nick Holden scored the go-ahead goal in the third period to lift the Avalanche over Florida 4-2.

Vancouver’s Henrik Sedin had a goal and an assist to lead the Canucks over Philadelph­ia 4-0.

Tampa Bay’s Ondrej Palat scored a pair of third-period goals to lift the Lightning to a 3-2 win against Edmonton.

Calgary’s David J ones, Mark Giordano and Sean Monahan scored third-period goals as the Flames defeated Arizona 4-1.

Minnesota emphatical­ly ended a six-game losing skid by routing Buffalo 7-0.
