Symphony of soloists
Two German soloists from the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne — clarinet player Nicola Jurgensen and trumpet virtuoso Peter Monkediek — will perform, at Goethe-Institut, on Friday at 7.30pm.
The “Faculty Recital” concert is part of the German Winds Festival & Academy, held in collaboration with Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Music, from today until Sunday.
Jurgensen and Monkediek will conduct a masterclass for music students, from today until Thursday, before their performance, which will feature Debussy’s Premier Rhapsodie, Schumann’s Three Romances and Enesco’s Legend.
Jurgensen won the Mozart Prize from the Wiesbaden Mozart Society and the Soloists Prize from the German Music Competition, in 1999. She has performed with the Auckland Philharmonia, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and Bremen Chamber Orchestra.
Monkediek has worked as a soloist with the Guzerich Orchestra, Munster Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Hungarica. He is currently a professor at Robert Schumann Academy of Music in Düsseldorf.
Jurgensen and Monkediek will be accompanied by pianist Dr Pornphan Banternghansa, from Silpakorn University.
The festival will conclude with the “Romantic Music from GWF 2015” concert, on Saturday at 7.30pm. It will be performed by students from the three-day masterclass and workshops, with a programme featuring works from composers such as Krommer, Mozart, Strauss, Bach as well as HM King Bhumibol.
