Favre returns to Green Bay

-

GREEN BAY: Brett Favre, the NFL’s alltime passing leader, said on Monday he will return to Green Bay later this year to have his No.4 jersey retired by the Packers.

The 45-year-old, a three-time NFL Most Valuable Player who spent 16 of his 20 NFL seasons with the Packers, made the announcement on his website.

“I’m pleased to announce that I will be returning to Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 2015 for induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and retirement of my jersey,” Favre said.

“It was a tremendous honour to play 16 years for the Green Bay Packers... I’m truly looking forward to celebrating and sharing this special moment with all of the great fans of the Green Bay Packers.”

The NFL has not announced its 2015 schedule and Favre did not indicate a date for when the honour would be bestowed upon him.

Favre, who led the Packers to a Super Bowl victory over New England in 1997, had received some criticism from Green Bay fans after leaving for the New York Jets in 2008 and then spending his final two NFL seasons with Packers arch-rivals, the Minnesota Vikings.

The Packers will play host to the Vikings next season as the two clubs are division rivals.

Favre, who made an NFL record 297 consecutive regular season starts, owns several league career passing marks, including 6,300 completions, 10,169 attempts and 71,838 passing yards.
