STEAM THOSE WORRIES AWAY

Spa Ten’s stress-busting treatment is just the tonic for tired minds and bodies

- STORY: NAPAMON ROONGWITOO

Stress, worries and negative emotions can leave our bodies feeling tired, rigid and uncomfortable. On top of that, our unhealthy lifestyles, which incorporate hours staring at computer screens and smartphones, can make our necks and shoulders very stiff.

Spa Ten at Siam@Siam Design Hotel Bangkok has just the right remedy. The “No Worries” package is a 120-minute treatment designed to ease away worries and that annoying stiffness.

Spa Ten was named so as it is located on the 10th floor of the building. It also refers to the 10 fingers of the therapist who will work their magic on the problem areas of your body. It also guarantees a “10/10” experience.

The contemporary Thai decor provides peaceful ambience that puts the mind at ease almost instantly. The hotel in general has an industrial feel to it, since the owners, the Phornprapha family, also have an automotive business. Naked cement, unpolished wood and metal decor give the place a modern feel. The spacious lobby has big, comfy sofas for relaxation before and after treatment.

There are four oils to choose from — eucalyptus, lavender, green tea and lemongrass. The three choices of scrub are lemongrass, green tea and pomegranate. The scent is rather mild because no artificial fragrance is added. The scrubs and oils are made from natural, locally-sourced ingredients.

“No Worries” treatment begins with 30 minutes in the herbal steam room. If the high temperature makes you feel uncomfortable, you can tell the therapist to adjust it. The recommended temperature for steam baths is generally around 43-45C. Although the stipulated time is 30 minutes, you can walk out whenever it gets too hot to handle. Not being a big fan of hot steam, I walked out after 10 minutes.

After a quick shower, it’s time for a 30-minute body scrub. The scrub feels really nice on the skin — gentle, yet rough enough to scrub away all the dirty build-up. The scent is also quite uplifting. After rinsing, the skin feels soft, supple, and moisturised.

Next came the most blissful part — the 60-minute massage. Spa Ten fuses many massage techniques – including Thai, Swedish and Balinese — to ensure personalised treatment that truly addresses the concerns of each guest. On areas that are particularly tense, the therapist will spend more time kneading knots away.

“No Worries” package is described as a “prescriptive treatment”, which means each person’s experience will be unique. The client can prescribe which areas to focus on, what to avoid, and so on, to ensure that the experience is perfect.

Meanwhile, the treatment room is worth mentioning. The beautiful view of Bangkok provides a nice distraction if you are not planning to fall asleep during the treatment. The room is spacious and comfortable, with en suite bathroom and toilet. Next to the full window is a Jacuzzi tub for relaxation after the treatment. All in all, it feels more like a hotel room than a spa treatment room.

“No Worries” package is 2,943 baht net. Contact Spa Ten at Siam@Siam Design Hotel Bangkok at 02-217-3000.
