RESIGNED: While he still could, Sepp Blatter, the godfather and president of world football. He quit five days after he was re-elected as head of Fifa, and five hours after he learned US authorities have now placed him at the top of their evolving investigation into global soccer corruption under his leadership. Interpol issued worldwide red notices for six of his best loyalists.

CLEARED: In an initial finding by the National Anti-Corruption Commission of any smidgen of wrongdoing in the matter of her brother’s passports, Thailand’s only female ex-prime minister. NACC chief Panthep Klanarongran said he examined a Democrat Party complaint about the travel documents, and Little Sister was blameless.

ANGERED: To the point of blowing a gasket over gauche Chinese tourists, National Artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. The tourists (plural) were watching their precious little darlings urinate at the front of Chiang Rai’s white temple. “It’s just wrong,” he bellowed over a megaphone to people in a language they don’t understand. Nothing happened but it’s good to vent sometimes.

CONDUCTED: By the permanent secretary for agriculture Chavalit Chookajorn and fortune teller Sorajja Nuanyu, a ceremony asking Hindu Rain God Phra Pirun for some of the wet stuff. Mr Chavalit said it was not superstitious, but “a matter of personal belief”. Mr Sorajja predicted drought. Ministry officials said there is no danger of that.

REMOVED: From the US list of countries supporting terrorism, Cuba, which denied it had ever supported terrorism and promised at length never to do it again. Cuba continues to shelter the two mostwanted US terrorists — escaped prisoner and police killer Joanne Chesimard and bomb-maker and murderer Guillermo Morales.
