When titans collide, music takes over
Two titans of the modern musical world, Jean-Bernard Pommier and Wolfram Christ, will explore the wonders of Ludwig van Beethoven and Antonin Dvorak with Bangkok Symphony Orchestra during “The Two Masters” concert at Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, on June 24 at 8pm.
This special royal celebration concert will begin with Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No.3, followed by the same composer’s Piano Concerto No.3 In C Minor, which will give the famed French concert pianist Pommier a platform to delight the audience with his towering musicianship. The BSO will then shine itself in Dvorak’s epic and demanding Symphony No.7 In D Minor under the baton of Christ.
Pommier was the youngest finalist at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow at the age of 17 and has since worked with practically every A-list conductor. A long period of collaboration with Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic helped to cement his reputation at the very top of the profession which has taken him to all of the world’s leading concert halls.
His artistic talent has been recognised by his native France, which has made him an Officer of the Ordre du Merite National, as well as Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur.
German conductor Christ’s career as principal viola with the Berlin Philharmonic has won him fame and adulation among music lovers worldwide. In the last decade and a half he has also become a recognised conductor, from 2009-2013 holding the post of first guest conductor with Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra.
