SAUSAGE GOT MOVES

A ‘link’ to Berlin in Bangkok

-

While you may no longer raise an eyebrow over mobile eateries in Bangkok, we bet you will do a double take when you first see Bangkok Grill Runner. The sausage/hot dog vendor is hard to miss — not only does the vendor himself actually wear the grilling kit on shoulder straps (with an umbrella atop), but there also seems to be a constant flock of people around him taking photos.

While people are initially drawn to Bangkok Grill Runner for its unusual concept and look, they stay for the sizzling sausages. Started almost three months ago, Bangkok Grill Runner is the brainchild of German expat Sebastian and Nichapat, a Thai. The co-founders have imported the mobile hot dog concept from Berlin. Now, now, you might wonder how a one-man vendor can deliver real flavours. We can assure you, though, that the custom-made ingredients, from the buns and sausages to the toppings, are hearty and delicious.

Giant (B100) impresses with a crispy-skinned classic pork- and herb-stuffed sausage. Each bite into this eight-inch sausage offers an aromatic and juicy sensation. Little classic Spaniard (B80) is a chorizo sausage on a chewy baguette. You can actually hear a crunching sound when you sink your teeth into it. It provides a heartier chew, as the pork is slightly more coarsely chopped, while smoked paprika and chilli add a spicy kick. Even with ketchup and mustard on top, the flavour of the five-and-a-half-inch spicy sausage comes through. You can also add the sweet and sour punch of sauerkraut and dried onion for only B10.

To truly live up to its slogan (“The Sausage Authority”), however, Bangkok Grill Runner sorely needs to offer more than four items on its menu. Bangkok Grill Runner has four grillers, who appear at various weekend events. It’s also available for private events and parties. The grillers will also soon be deployed to the likes of Silom, Khao San and Sukhumvit Soi 11.
