MILESTONES

-

WARNED: By both the foreign ministry and the education minister over their inappropriate clothing, Thai officials visiting Laos. The Thai embassy in Vientiane was supposedly informed — no names — that Thais wore shorts, sandals and “skinny jeans” on recent visits. Ministers claimed they received phone calls — no names — about all that inappropriate clothing. With more delegations visiting Laos these days, it’s important for Thais to strive to live up to the superior standards of dress found in that country.

ARRESTED: And charged with defaming the prime minister in a Facebook post, Rinda Paruechabutr, 44, of Pathum Thani. She said she copied a message to her on Line and pasted it to her Facebook page. It was about how the FC (First Couple) had transferred more than 10 billion baht to Singapore, spread by hundreds of people. Only Ms Rinda has won the possibility of free room and board for 15 years.

DEFEATED: Once again by the combined might of England and America, Germany and Japan — only this time in the Women’s World Cup. Something like 1945, England defeated Germany 1-0 first, in the bronze-medal match, and then the Americans mopped up the allied effort by routing Japan 5-2. Of course analogies never are perfect. Apparently in World War II all the key battlefield combatants were men.

DIVERTED: To New Delhi when a bomb threat was found on a note in a toilet, Turkish Airlines flight TK65 from Bangkok to Ankara. All 150 people aboard the Airbus A330 were safe and no bomb was found. Turkish Airlines has had several bomb hoaxes since April, although the specific person or group targeting the airline has not been identified.
