Key to safe driving
Re: “Winding them down”, (Thai Pulse, Aug 12).
The Chiang Mai Land Transport Office has declared the popular decorative windup-key for cars is illegal, and if installed without permission will be subject to a 1,000 baht fine.
First of all, how can you give permission if it is illegal?
The reason given is that the key is looked upon as a visual distraction for other motorists, and could cause accidents.
If we are to believe this hogwash, then I demand a similar law, making it illegal to paint colourful murals on VIP buses, as they could also cause distractions resulting in serious accidents.
