Value of an apology

On the anniversary of one of the biggest war crimes ever, Mr Abe may feel that apologies might be flowing in a different direction.

The second bomb that came after the offer of surrender was ignored. That deserves some mention.

However, Japan’s participation in WWII was because of Japanese militarism which has been suppressed since that time.

Japan’s participation was courted during the war on terror and has accelerated during Mr Abe’s time in office.

Denials of Japanese wrongdoing colours one’s view of Mr Abe’s agenda in this respect. Will future generations need to apologise for him?
