Young masters tinkling the ivories
Ten of the 12 winners of the 3rd Siam International Piano Competition will perform during the Winners Concert at Sala Sudasiri Sobha on Aug 23 at 4pm.
Presented by Nat Studio, the concert is the first opportunity for the young talents aged from seven-15 to perform in front of the public after they garnered prizes from the competition three months ago.
The Siam International Piano Competition is an upgraded version of the national level Nat Studio Piano Competition which ran every three years from 1985 to 2006.
Held for the first time in 2009, this triennial international challenge is divided into four levels — Category A (age seven-nine years), Category B, (age 10-12 years), Category C (age 13-15 years) and Category D (age 16-18 years).
HM the King’s compositions are used as compulsory pieces for every category and all prizes are named after important figures of Thai music.
For this concert, Nat Yontararak will arrange all the pieces for the piano solo with the repertoire ranging from Mozart Sonatas to Chopin Waltzes and pieces by Bach, Debussy and Mendelssohn. The programme also includes three of HM’s compositions — Sweet Words, Candlelight Blues and Oh I Say.
Tickets cost 700 baht including reception with proceeds going towards the Gift of Life Foundation to help blood disease patients in Thailand.
