Playing for a goddess

-

Korean flute star Jasmine Choi will perform a recital at the Music Hall, Art and Culture Building at Chulalongkorn University this Sunday at 5.30pm, to close out the Thailand Flute Festival 2015, which begins on Friday.

The evening programme features Telemann’s Fantasy No. 4 In B-Flat Major For Solo Flute, Schubert’s Sonata Arpeggione, Ian Clarke’s Hatching Aliens For Flute And Piano (with Thai concert pianist Jayanat Wisaijorn) and Boehm’s Grand Polonaise, Op 16.

Jasmine is one of the most celebrated flautists of our generation, who was just named one of the “Ten Best Flautists of All-Time” by Sinfini Music in the UK in February. She has been regarded with critical acclaim on international stages for her rich tone, technical brilliance, superb musicianship and for her charismatic stage presence since an early age.

She was the first Korean woodwind player hired by a major symphony orchestra in the US, the first Korean musician to join the Vienna Symphony in the orchestra’s storied 113-year history, and the first Korean featured as a cover story in Flute Talk magazine.

Praised by the Korea Times as “The Goddess of the Flute”, she has appeared at famous venues around the world, including the Carnegie Halls’ Weill Recital Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London and Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna.

After having served as principal flute of the Vienna Symphony and associate principal flute of the Cincinnati Symphony, Jasmine has now moved on to a career as a soloist and recording artist whose fifth CD was launched last year. Tickets cost 1,200 baht (800 baht for students) and can be purchased via thailandflutefestival.yapsody.com. Visit www.thailandflutefestival.org or call 091-414-1126.
