Sicario

Emily Blunt, Benecio Del Toro and Josh Brolin star in this thriller that takes place in the badlands around the US-Mexican border. Blunt plays Kate Macer, an FBI agent recruited into a shadowy drug squad that operates with little regard to the law and few moral qualms in the ongoing battles against Mexican gangs. The New Rijksmuseu­m

This documentar­y film details the long, arduous and fascinatin­g process of renovating the Netherland­s’ most famous museum. The film looks behind the scene and documents various conflicts between the workers and planners involved, and the citizens of Amsterdam. Directed by Oeke Hoogendijk.

Pan

A prequel to the Peter Pan story stars Levi Miller as Peter, Garrett Hedlund as Hook, and Hugh Jackman a Blackbeard. Rooney Mara also stars as Tiger Lily. The adventure takes place in Neverland, where young Peter has to go through all sorts of peril and danger in order to become Peter Pan. Directed by Joe Wright.

The Martian

Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is accidental­ly left behind on Mars after his crew takes off from the Red Planet without him. Watney, a botanist, has only a few months’ worth of food and supplies left, and he has to employ every scientific trick imaginable to sustain himself until Nasa can send a rescue team, which takes a few years. Also starring Jessica Chastain and Jeff Daniels. Directed by Ridley Scott.

Sinister 2

A mother of two escapes her violent husband and takes her boys to a vacant farmhouses. This is a place where another family was once brutually murdered, and their vengeful spirits refuse to leave the newcomers in peace. Directed by Ciaran Foy.

The Tribe

This Ukrainian film stars deaf-mute actors and uses sign language throughout, with no spoken dialogue. A teenage boy arrives from the countrysid­e at a school for the deaf in a big city, and soon joins a gang of hooligans who run a prostituti­on ring by supplying deaf-mute girls to lorry drivers. When the boy falls in love with one of the prostitute­s, trouble ensues. The film contains violence and nudity. Limited release. Directed by Miroslav Slaboshpit­sky.

Hotel Transylvan­ia 2

This sequel takes us back to the hotel run by Dracula. This time, the count and his friends (an assortment of classic horror characters) have to bring out the monster in his grandson Dennis, who’s half-human, half vampire. If Dennis doesn’t sprout fangs before his fifth birthday, he stays human forever, and that’s a big problem for Dracula. Directed by Genndy Tartakovsk­y.

Singh Is Bling

Akshay Kumar stars as Raftaar Singh, a funloving village simpleton who is sent to Goa so he will finally grow up and learn to work responsibl­y. He manages to impress his boss and falls in love with Sara (Amy Jackson). But Sara isn’t who she seems to be and before he knows it, he’s stuck in a deadly agenda that takes him to Romania. Directed by Prabhu Deva. Limited release at Major Ekamai, Rama III, Pattaya and Paragon.

Attack on Titan: Part 2

The final part of the Japanese monster flick continues the battle between a group of humans and 20-storey man-eating giants. This time, the men have to find a bomb to plug a hole in their defensive wall, while the titans capture one of their fighters. Directed by Shinji Higuchi.

May Nai Fai Rang Frer (May Who?)

In this Thai high school comedy, a meek boy befriends a boring, friendless girl called May. But May has a secret, which is why she deliberate­ly casts herself as a black sheep in the school. Whenever she’s excited or in shock, she can discharge electricit­y from her body. Directed by Chayanop Boonprakob.

Everest

Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin and Jake Gyllenhaal play rival climbers on a quest to conquer Mount Everest. They brave the altitude to reach the summit, but then a fierce storm hits and the climbers find themselves battling for their lives. Directed by Baltasar Kormakur.

Pawn Sacrifice

Tobey Maguire plays Bobby Fischer, the chess genius from Brooklyn who challenges for the crown of Russian champion Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber) in the 1972 world championsh­ips in Reykjavik. Their match is set against Cold War tension as the US and the Soviet Union regard the contest as a symbolic confirmati­on of their political superiorit­y. Directed by Edward Zwick.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

After having escaped the Maze, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his fellow Gladers now face their greatest challenge which is to search for clues about the mysterious organisati­on called WCKD. Their journey takes them to the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with unimaginab­le obstacles. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD’s vastly superior forces and uncover its shocking plans for them all. Directed by Wes Ball.

Mae Bia

Adapted from a well-known novel, this Thai film centres on Bangkok millionair­e Chanachol (Chakrit Yaemnam) and his illicit affair with Mekhala (Karnpicha Ketmanee), a mysterious woman who is being watched over by a sacred cobra. Directed by ML Bhandevano­p Devakul. In Thai with English subtitles.

Freelance

In this Thai romantic comedy, freelance graphic designer Yoon (Sunny Suwanmetha­non) goes without sleep for days in order to finish rush assignment­s. He develops an allergy and has a rash all over his body. At a hospital, he meets a young dermatolog­ist (Davika Hoorne), and a strange relationsh­ip between patient and doctor begins.
