ON THE EDGE

Samsung’s latest “edge” phone is the type of gadget that you’ll be pleased to flash in your friend’s faces to make them green with envy. Too bad, Samsung has a better alternative at the same price point.

The main aspect of this Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, apart from the absurdly long name, is the curved edges on the left and right sides of the phone. This feature is there for aesthetic reasons and it does make the phone stand out from the crowd in terms of look and feel. With all the curves and glossiness, this is one pretty phone with an absurdly bright and detailed screen.

There are some functions that you can call out from the edges of this phone, such as shortcuts to favourite contacts & apps, a visible night clock, flash colour stripes when a special someone calls (but only when the phone is face down). If you’re a nerd like me, these “edge” functions are not exclusive only to the “edge” phones and can be compensated by special apps or ROMs if you’re into modifying your phone’s OS.

If you’ve read my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 review last month (goo.gl/5JyD5t), that review will pretty much also apply to this Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+, too. All the internals are identical but with a few cosmetic differences, as mentioned above, and the lack of the Note’s series S Pen.

In short, this phone has the same 5.7-inch screen with durable Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back (it’s also a fingerprint magnet), it is slippery (just like most highend smartphones, for some reason), and it houses the same best smartphone camera on the market as the Note 5.

This is a great phone with a unique style that you can show off with, but the Note 5 is still a better choice.
