BSO and ballet Music Hall, Art and Culture Building Chulalongk­orn University Phaya Thai Road Nov 28 at 8pm

Two principal dancers from Tokyo City Ballet, Ikue Shiga and Masahiko Haruno, will perform some of the most recognisab­le and popular highlights from Tchaikovsk­y’s wonderful scores with choreograp­hy by Yoichi Kobayashi during the “BSO Ballet Showcasing Tokyo City Ballet Principals”. The repertoire includes Swan Lake’s Pas De Deux and The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy, Chinese Dance and Pas de deux, all from the Christmas favourite, The Nutcracker. The Gift of Life Foundation presents a harp recital by Maria Rosa Fogagnolo at 4pm and a piano recital by Patrizio Cerrone at 5.45pm. This is an afternoon of enchanting harp repertoire­s and sonatas from the classical period. Studio Zoom is holding its 6th annual performanc­e titled “The World Is A Stage” which combine contempora­ry, jazz, hip hop, kids jazz, hula and zumba into a world of fantasy with dance under the theme “Alice In The Wonderland”. “The River Jazz Festival 2015” sees the return of bossa nova queen Lisa Ono who has prepared a special song for Thai fans. Oranised by UN Women Asia Pacific, the first “Bangkok Film Festival on Ending Violence against Women and Girls” features award-winning feature films and documentar­ies from Argentina, France, Germany, Israel, Pakistan, Singapore, Spain and the US. The movies focus on issues that millions of women and girls across the world endure, including domestic violence, child marriage, ‘honour’ killings, sexual harassment and rape, as well as broader issues of discrimina­tion such as limited access to education and unsafe labour migration. The Foreign Correspond­ents’ Club of Thailand is screening Frame by Frame, a documentar­y directed by Alexandria Bombach and Mo Scarpelli. It follows four Afghan photojourn­alists who, after decades of war and an oppressive Taliban regime, face the realities of building a free press in a country left to stand on its own. They navigate an emerging and dangerous media landscape — reframing Afghanista­n for the world and for themselves.

The “Seacon Anime Festa 2015” features popular characters from One Piece and Gundam animation series. The “Pattaya Internatio­nal Fireworks Festival 2015” features four 10-minute firework displays from China, the Philippine­s, Korea and Japan. The first “Bangkok Heritage Race” will focus on uncovering heritage stories along the famous Chao Phraya River. Participan­ts will be required to find up to 17 designated stops and complete challenges in order to qualify for the winners’ draw. The first prize is US$1,000 (35,700 baht), the second $700 and the third $400. Attractive travel prizes will also be offered. The race is open to anyone to enter in teams of two to six people.
