TRAVEL IN STYLE

-

With its first stackable designs allowing easy transportation, prestigious l uggage-maker Louis Vuitton has long associated itself with travelling, ever since it was established in 1854.

The French maison makes elegant and practical luggage, bags and accessories with designs translated as an “Art of Travel”.

The travel heritage has been expressed in Louis Vuitton City Guides launched in 1998. The guidebooks feature popular destinations such as London, Paris, New York, Tokyo and Sydney. Released this month are the Bangkok, Chicago, Prague and Rome editions, which extends the collection to cover 25 cities.

Each City Guide has a guest contributor, who takes readers on a personal exploration of their hometowns, including secret addresses, city walks and cultural events.

The four additions feature ML Poomchai Chumbala sharing his favourite places in Bangkok; film director Ivan Zachariáš suggesting must-visit parts of central Prague; French Ambassador to Rome Catherine Colonna giving her i nsights of the Eternal City; and Chicago Museum o f Contemporary Art’s curator Naomi Beckwith, creating a portrait of the Windy City.

The series of guidebooks now also cater to smartphone users, who can download an app to prepare them for the best possible travel experience.

On iPhone and iPad, the City Guides will run instant updates, for example, hotels, restaurants, bars, stores, spas, museums and galleries, with detailed descriptions of places to go.

Listing almost 500 regularly updated addresses, each guide is on sale for 400 baht from the App Store. With a single tap you can call or access the company’s website, and direct map access makes it easy to find each destination.

The guide books also present photographic contributions by Tendance Floue, a collective of 13 photographers who explore the world and work together to open up new horizons and diversify approaches in contemporary photography. Their photos capture the charms and distinctive allure of destination in original ways.

The French brand’s fashion accessory now includes a small leather case with a Monogram pattern, to dress up the iPhone and iPad. Available for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the new cases come in four extra colours inspired by the city collection: blue for Paris, yellow for Rome, red for Beijing and pink for Tokyo.
