Nations to debate Rohingya crisis
BOAT PEOPLE: Concrete results are expected at the upcoming second special meeting on “Irregular Migration in the Indian Ocean”, which Thailand will host next Friday.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Sek Wannamethee said yesterday the meeting will follow up on results of the previous meeting in May. At that meeting it was agreed to work towards easing the Asian migrant crisis. Mr Sek said senior officials from the countries involved in the crisis — Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand — will share views with their counterparts from the US, the EU and international organisations.
The meeting will be held amid speculation that Rohingya in Myanmar’s Rakhine state will begin travelling again at the end of the rainy season.
