Polanski extradition to US quashed
WARSAW: Poland will not extradite director Roman Polanski, 82, to the US over an alleged sex offence committed in the 1970s, the public prosecution service said yesterday. It would not appeal against a court decision in Krakow that had voided the US extradition warrant at the end of October, it said. Krakow Judge Dariusz Mazur backed his decision in October with an agreement between Mr Polanski and the US public prosecutor in the 1970s when Mr Polanski admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old girl. He fled to Europe in 1978 before his sentencing and has since lived in France, Switzerland and Poland.
