PATHUM THANI: Police are seeking arrest warrants for a taxi driver and two accomplices who allegedly robbed a Myanmar passenger and kidnapped his pregnant wife yesterday morning.

The 30-year-old Myanmar man, identified only as Su, had sustained injuries to his chin and body from being beaten. The woman, 26, was later found unharmed at a Don Muang building site.

Pol Lt Col Chaiyan Daoruang, an investigator at Sam Khok police station, said locals reported the incident after finding the injured Myanmar man on the side of Chiang Rak Road near a popular pub in tambon Chiang Rak in Sam Khok district about 6am.

Su told police that he and his wife, Min, had travelled by intercity bus from Tak’s Mae Sot district to Rangsit, where he hailed a green and yellow taxi to get to Samut Prakan for work. When he was in the taxi, the driver made a phone call to somebody and later picked up another two men.

Mr Su said the driver took an unfamiliar route and eventually pulled over in an isolated and dark area. The three men then dragged Su out of the vehicle, kicked him and beat him with wooden sticks.

They stole 600 baht in cash from Su along with his mobile phone and passport, and fled in the taxi with Min still inside. Su said he did not know the licence plate number of the vehicle.

Sam Khok police chief Saroj Khumsap said CCTV images showed the driver used a Toyota taxi which had the numberplate Mor Ngor 9630 and was registered in Bangkok.

Pol Col Saroj did not disclose the names of the wanted men.
