- KITTIPONG THONGSOMBAT

Ayodhya Links will stage the World Club Championship in December next year.

The 12th edition of the annual tournament has been scheduled to take place at the course from Dec 4-9, 2016 and will feature 24 teams from 12 countries.

All participating teams will be representatives of the courses ranked among the world’s top 100 in the 2014-2015 season by GOLF Magazine.

Ayodhya Links, an eight-year-old private course in Ayutthaya province, is ranked 76th and it is the first course from Thailand and Southeast Asia to earn a place on one of the oldest and most prestigious rankings of the world’s top golf courses.

“We are extremely honoured to have been awarded this distinction by GOLF Magazine,” said club founder and chairman Pitak Intrawityanunt.

“It is not only a tremendous achievement for everyone associated with Ayodhya Links, but it is also a proud occasion for Thailand and the game of golf.

“It is very satisfying to see our efforts recognised by golfers and by such a respected publication.”

Joe Passov, senior editor at GOLF Magazine, praised the efforts of Pitak and his team at Ayodhya Links.

“We at GOLF Magazine recognise that golf is truly an international game. It is gratifying to see a golf-rich country such as Thailand finally makes grade with a worthy top-100 course,” he said.

The magazine began ranking the world’s best courses in 1979. Rankings are determined by a 100-strong international panel, whose members represent 17 countries.

Voters include major championship winners, Ryder Cup players, architects, leading amateurs, administrators, journalists and photographers among others.
