Iraq air strike kills IS finance minister
WASHINGTON: The finance chief for the Islamic State (IS) militant group was killed in an air strike in northern Iraq, Barack Obama administration officials said on Thursday. Abu Saleh’s death was announced via Twitter by Brett McGurk, the special envoy for the Global Coalition to counter the IS. “Confirmed; Death of #ISIL finance minister Abu Saleh & 2 associates as part of coalition campaign to destroy ISIL’s financial infrastructure,” Mr McGurk wrote. US military spokesman Steve Warren said Saleh was one of the IS’ most experienced members who allegedly acted as an enforcer and extortionist and coordinated the movement of fighters, weapons and information.
