Fire razes Manila neighbourhood

MANILA: Nine people were killed yesterday when a fire razed a residential area in the Philippine capital, a fire official said. The fire burned down 50 houses in the village of Damayang Lagi in suburban Quezon City, according to Fire Officer Mark Mondia. The victims, including an infant and a 7-year-old boy, were trapped in the second floor of their rental house, Mr Mondia said, adding about 750 people were displaced by the accident.
