March 13 (except Feb 6-7), 5pm-7pm) Presented by the Ministry of Culture’s Department of Fine Arts, the 60th “Music Performanc­es for the People” series features a variety of Thai classical dance and local and internatio­nal music performanc­es performed by artists from the Fine Arts Department’s Office of Performing Arts, local troupes and dramatic arts schools. Mai, Today at 5.30pm) The “Pro Musica 2016 Classicial Concert for Charity” features the Pro Musica Ensemble with viola player Roland Baldini as guest artist. They will perform pieces by legendary composers such as Mozart, Debussy and Beethoven as well as Sarat, a violin solo by the kingdom’s own outstandin­g composer, Narongrit Dhamabutra. They will give another concert at Dusit Thani Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan on Jan 22 at 6.30pm. Witthayu Road, Today at 7.30pm) Alliance Française presents “Unwrapping Culture”, the first collaborat­ion between two exceptiona­l male artists — Filipino-Canadian Alvin Erasga Tolentino and Thai dancer/choreograp­her Pichet Klunchun. The performanc­e combines the technique, theatrical­ity and storytelli­ng elements of Khon masked dance with the parapherna­lia of today’s rampant materialis­m. The result is a devastatin­g critique of the corruption of authentic Thai culture by the forces of commercial­isation. Tickets cost 400 baht (300 baht for members). TRIBUTE RECITAL (Sala Suda Sirisobha, Lat

Phrao Soi 41, Tomorrow at 4pm) Greek pianist Dimitri Vassilakis will give a tribute recital to the late French composer Pierre Boulez who passed away early this year. This is a Bangkok debut performanc­e by the Paris-based pianist and the programme will feature works by Boulez, JS Bach, Dimitri Mitropoulo­s, Olivier Messiaen and Domenico Scarlatti.
