Ex-Democrat boss dies at age 102

Former Demo c rat Party leader Thanat Khoman, who played a key role in establishi­ng the Associatio­n of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in 1967, passed away at the age of 102 yesterday in Bangkok.

Thanat was pronounced dead at 3.49pm at Ramathibod­i Hospital. He died of natural causes. His death was announced by his daughter-inlaw, Sirilaksan­a Khoman.

His body will be kept for 100 days at his home on Phetchabur­i Road before cremation. The prayer ceremony will be held from tomorrow.

During his career he was also deputy premier and foreign minister.
