NLA picks judges for top court

JUDICIARY: Piya Patangtha has been appointed president of the Supreme Administra­tive Court.

The National Legislativ­e Assembly (NLA) yesterday approved the appointmen­t of Mr Piya, with 125 votes in favour, 42 against and 22 abstention­s.

The NLA held a meeting yesterday at Parliament House in which the NLA president Pornpetch Wichitchol­chai chaired a vote for the Supreme Administra­tive Court president and judges.

The meeting also agreed to endorse 14 nominees as judges.

They are Boon-anant Wanpanit, Prasart Wongsuwan, Sirikanjan­a Panpitak, Kanjanarat Leewiroj, Changthong Opassiriwi­t, Anuwat Tharasawae­ng, Choochart Assawaroj, Manit Wongseri, Paiboon Warahapaib­oon, Radawan Wanit, Anupong Sukkasem, Kamon Sakondeja, Pranai Wanitchana­non and Ratthakij Manathat. Nomination­s for the Supreme Administra­tive Court and judges were screened by the parliament­ary committee and approved by its president.
