His own worst enemy

-

Re: “Jatuporn loses appeal against jail for defaming Abhisit”, (Online, March 2).

The Supreme Court has upheld the sentence imposed by the lower courts on redshirt leader Jatuporn Prompan — six months in jail, suspended, and a fine of 50,000 baht — for defaming former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva in 2010, by claiming that Mr Abhisit ordered the military to kill protesters.

In the ruling, the court explained the protesters were not peaceful in attacking a military unit and causing deaths of officials in the first place; and the military had full authority under the law to restore peace.

Before this, Mr Jatuporn was one of Thailand’s most formidable political players. Everybody seems to have been fearful of him for his sharp tongue.

Now, this court sentence has proved Mr Jatuporn’s worst enemy is his mouth.
