- TOR CHITTINAND

Buriram United and SCG Muang Thong United — the two giants of the Thai League — did not miss the opportunity to get their campaigns back on track as they recorded convincing victories yesterday.

Buriram United picked up three points in an away match after beating Pattaya United 3-1.

Muang Thong United were buoyed by a Teerasil Dangda hat-trick as they trounced Navy 4-0 in Sattahip.

Bangkok United took sole possession of the top spot at least for a day when they edged newcomers BBCU 1-0 in a heated encounter that turned rough towards the end. The Bangkok United winner was scored by Jaycee Okwunwanne in the 17th minute.

Bangkok Glass need a tie in their home game against BEC Tero Sasana today to join their capital city rivals at the top.

At Nong Prue Stadium yesterday, Buriram were in great form to make amends for their lacklustre show on Wednesday when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Suphanburi.

However, the Thunder Castle needed an early wake-up call to get going.

Wongsakorn Chaikultewin had shocked the defending champions Buriram’s fans by scoring the first goal in the 16th minute to give Pattaya United an unexpected 1-0 lead.

After conceding the goal, Buriram United started mounting pressure on the home team and their efforts paid off in the 33rd minute when Andres Tunez produced the equaliser.

Kaio Goncalves scored the second and his first goal of the season for the visitors soon to tip the balance in Buriram’s favour.

Buriram had the third goal from Anon Amornlertsak during the injury time and the defending champions walked away with three points.

At Navy-Sattahip Stadium, Muang Thong returned to winning ways after two straight loses with a 4-0 hammering of the home side.

The Kirins had suffered shock defeats to BEC Tero Sasana (1-0) and Bangkok United (3-2) before undertaking the trip to Sattahip for yesterday’s encounter.

Thailand international Teerasil was on target in the 42nd, 56th and 79th minutes of the match and his Brazilian scroing partner Cleiton Silva netted the fourth goal for Muang Thong United.

It was Cleiton’s fifth goal of the season and he is now the joint topscorer in the Thai League with the Andres Tunez of Buriram.

At Chonburi Stadium, the Sharks also added three points to their tally following a 3-0 victory over Osotspa.

Chonburi’s both goals came in the second half with Prakit Deeprom finding the net in the 46th minute and Rodrigo Vergillio adding the second only two minutes later.

Brazilian Leandro Assumpcao then put the game out of Osotspa’s reach by netting the third.

The Osotspa had several chances but Anthony Komenan and Supachai Jaidej were denied by Chonburi goalkeeper Chanin Sae-ear.

At Ratchaburi Stadium, hosts Ratchaburi hit the top gear as they defeated Nakhon Ratchasima 2-0.
