Promoting diplomatic relations through music
New Zealand classical musicians Stella and Sally Kim will join hands with Pro Musica Ensemble to perform during “The Spirit Of Asean” concert at Siam Society, Asok Road, on Wednesday at 7pm.
Held in collaboration with the New Zealand Embassy, the concert is part of a series of exciting performances by the young Kim sisters, which include stops at three Asean countries — Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand — and TimorLeste to promote diplomatic relations with the respective countries.
In Thailand, the duo performed in Khon Kaen province on July 6 and two days later in Hua Hin of Prachuap Khiri Khan.
The upcoming concert in Bangkok will again highlight The Spirit Of Asean, a piano quintet by Narongrit Dhamabutra, one of the most respected Thai composers. Stella (violin) and Sally (violoncello) will perform the piece with Pornphan Banternghansa (piano), Tasana Nagavajara (violin) and Leo Phillips (viola) from Pro Musica Ensemble. Also featured in the evening programme will be Zoltan Kodaly’s Duo For Violin And Violoncello. The concert includes a break where New Zealand wines and canapés featuring New Zealand ingredients will be served.
After Bangkok, Stella and Sally will head to the Philippines to perform in Cebu and then to Timor Leste. They will return to Bangkok for a lecture and another concert at Chulalongkorn University on July 21. Violinist Stella is completing her Masters of Music in violin performance at the University of Auckland, and cellist Sally Kim is undertaking her Bachelor of Music at the same university. In 2013, as part of the Trinity Trio, they won the Pettman/ TOSL (Royal Overseas League) Chamber Music Competition.
Tickets cost 600 baht (500 baht for members and 100 baht for students).
