Letting out the child inside
Around 40 eye-catching artworks about childhood habits and creativity by Thai artist Pratchaya “Poysian” Mahapauraya are displayed during “The Kid Within By Sundae Kids” exhibition at The Gallery of Pullman Bangkok Hotel G until Sept 16.
This is the first solo exhibition by Pratchaya, also known as Sundae Kids, who portrays puerility she believes everyone has maintained even though they have grown up, through illustrations and comics that are presented in various forms — chalk and crayon sketches, digital prints, 3D drawings and painted canvas shoes.
The exhibition is divided into five zones. The Paper Town zone focuses on what other people may overlook or ignore while Zone 2 shows how all of us can try to step out of the frame that society has built around us.
Zone 3 invites viewers to add their own touch to a painting and the finished piece will be showcased throughout the exhibition period, Zone 4 is a retrospective of the artist’s works and the last zone includes another interactive art experience for viewers to enjoy.
Pratchaya is the creative force behind the famous Facebook page, Sundae Kids, which has enjoyed more than 40,000 followers. The page features her heartwarming comic strips, most of which draw inspiration from her own life experiences and portray her talented illustrating skill.
Her works have been featured in many magazines and at leading department stores including Central Embassy and appeared on countless covers of the books by Salmon Books printing house.
The Gallery is on the 36th floor of Pullman Bangkok Hotel G, Silom Road, and opens daily from 10am-5pm. There is no admission fee.
