Follie and magic from the Italian Baroque will be presented by Baroque Musicke Bangkok at Chulalongkorn University’s Music Hall, Phaya Thai Road, tomorrow at 7pm.

Presented by the Embassy of Italy, the evening will feature a “historically informed performance” by the Bangkok-based early music ensemble directed by two Italian musicians Jacopo Gianninoto and Alberto Firrincieli. Both are specialised in presenting rare gems from the Italian baroque repertoire and bringing back to life the improvisational approach to music, so common in the baroque era.

They will perform on rare original instruments such as lute, baroque guitar and harpsichord, together with some of the most talented young Thai strings players.

Jacopo is a lutenist and guitarist who has published a series of books of transcriptions of ancient music for lute, baroque guitar and theorbo, adapted for classical guitar, contributing to the rediscovery of ancient Italian repertoire.

He is a lute and guitar lecturer for Assumption University’s Department of Music Performance and collaborates with several international music institutions, such as Siam Opera.

Pianist Alberto is a dynamic character of the Bangkok musical scene as he is the founding conductor of Assumption University Gregorian Chant Choir. He is also a lecturer at the university’s Department of Music Performance where he teaches harpsichord, piano, counterpoint and history of western music, among other subjects.

The concert is held in the framework of the Italian Festival in Thailand 2016. There is no admission fee but reservation is required.
