Thepbadin ahead in Khon Kaen, Saranporn claims women’s title

Thepbadin Amaranan carried a slim lead into today’s final round of the All Thailand Premier Championsh­ip 2016 in Khon Kaen.

The overnight leader retained his one-shot lead after he hit an even-par 72 in the third round at the Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club yesterday.

Making two birdies and two bogeys, the 31-year-old from Chiang Rai finished the day on 11-under 205 in the 3.2 million baht event, while amateur Kamalas Namuangrak fired a 68 with four birdies to stay second on 10 under.

Thailand national team player Kamalas is bidding to become the second amateur to win on the All Thailand Golf Tour this year after Sarit Suwannarat took the Pattaya Open last month.

Jakraphan Premsirigo­rn posted a 68 to stay third on nine under while first-round leader Atthaphon Sriboonkae­w struggled with a 73 to tie for fourth with Varanyu Rattana phaibulkij (68).

Veteran Thaworn Wiratchant, who won the King’s Cup title here in 2014, was four shots behind after carding a 67 with five birdies in a bogey-free round. The 50-year-old shared sixth place with Tanuchan Puaktes (66), Thanpisit Omsin (68), Te-chin Siriboonya­suk (69) and Gunn Charoenkul (68).

Amateur Paradorn Srichaphan, who made the cut for the first time since joining the tour four years ago, posted an even-par 72 with three birdies and three bogeys. The former tennis star was tied for 41st on 218.

In the women’s event, Saranporn Langkul gasettrin successful­ly defended her title to claim her third victory on the tour this year when she closed with a 71 to win by four shots on nine-under 207.

The 16-year-old f rom Phuket received 32,000 baht for winning the 54-hole event. Two weeks ago, she took her first title on the Thai LPGA Tour in Chiang Mai.

The runner-up spot went t o Kusuma Meechai, who made a 72 for 211.
