Discover French Pastry and Specialty Coffee

At Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok’s Lobby Lounge

-

Pastry addicts will be in heaven at Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok’s Lobby Lounge with its Coffee Match promotion featuring high-end pastries.

The hotel garnered much attention for its French pastries, making it hard to find another establishment on the same level. Chocolate lovers will have to make some difficult decisions, as Lobby Lounge offers too many delicious items to list them all. However, here are some of the favourites.

A great starting point is the classic Tiramisu — one of Europe’s oldest and most popular pastries. It features ladyfingers dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese, and flavoured with cocoa. As an added bonus, Tiramisu is very high in protein, vitamin A, riboflavin, phosphorus, manganese and copper, and has many other vitamins and minerals; thus, pairing Tiramisu with a great cup of hot or cold coffee makes the day perfect.

Moreover, Lobby Lounge’s rich, healthy, Carrot Cake has beautiful icing work and contains kirsch, cinnamon, nuts, pineapple and raisins.

Fans of coffee and yogurt should try the Yogurt Blueberry Pulp Cheese Cake, with its sumptuous layers of fresh cheese, eggs, sugar and crushed cookies.

Guests who are not into cake may opt for one of the fruit-based verrines, particularly, the Banana Foster Verrine. This parfait-style dessert in a glass features perfectly ripe banana and contains a large number of layers of pastry cream, chocolate or vanilla mousse and a few cubes of almond sponge. This pastry introduces, more than a simple evolution of the form, a notable evolution in taste experience.

French pastry cannot be discussed without mentioning its superb choux pastry — especially Inside out Berry Éclair Choux. Despite increased competition from other bakery brands and shops, many believe the hotel’s is still the best in the city. The ingredients are butter, water, flour and eggs. The pastry also relies on rising steam to create a hollow centre that is then filled with cream or custard. After taking a bite, guests will find it hard to stop to eating it. French Pastry and Specialty Coffee Located on the second floor of the hotel’s Shangri-La Wing, Lobby Lounge is nestled in elegant surroundings overlooking the Chao Phraya’s majestic riverside scenery. It serves beverages, light meals, traditional afternoon tea and the popular French pastries that offer more than five choices from which guests can choose. They may enjoy their favourite baked goods with a cup of tea or coffee by selecting their preferred selection of coffee drinks, such as Cappuccino and Double Espresso, which are beyond the popular Black Coffee.

Lobby Lounge opens daily from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. and it is located in the vicinity of another two distinguished venues, Chocolate Boutique and The Long Bar, which can accommodate up to 190 guests, making the outlet an ideal venue for business and family or special occasions, such as birthday celebrations.
