Future looks bleak
Re: “Trump is bad news for America’s workers”, (Opinion, Dec 24).
Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz’s article outlining the likely implications of the upcoming Trump presidency in the US is sobering and disturbing.
While many of us would like to remain positive, Mr Stiglitz offers little to be optimistic about, for the US or the world, under the incoming US administration.
There is a corollary to Mr Stiglitz’s classic assertion that, under Mr Trump, “the US will spend more money on weapons that don’t work to use against enemies that don’t exist”. That is, there will be far less money available to fight hunger and malnutrition, provide health insurance and medical care for the needy, improve education, train workers to be competitive in the modern world, or conserve the Earth’s fragile environment for future generations.
