This Korean spy thriller, the country’s entry to the Oscars, is set in the 1920s during the Japanese occupation. Gong Yoo plays a strategist of the resistance plotting to smuggle explosives from China to Korea and rattle the Japanese rule. To do that, he needs the help of a pro-Japanese Korean police chief (played by Song Kang-ho). Directed by Kim Jee-woon.

Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard star in this spy drama set during World War II and with a clear nod to Casablanca.
Pitt plays Max Vatan, an intelligence officer who works with a French resistance fighter to plot the assassination of a German officer. But the two spies fall in love and their relationship faces the greatest test when Vatan receives a new assignment. Directed by Robert Zemeckis.
Why Him?
In this family comedy, Bryan Cranston plays a strict father whose daughter brings home her offbeat boyfriend (James Franco). Things get awkward and uncomfortable when the father realises that the crazy boyfriend is about to pop the question. Directed by John Hamburg.
Lion
Dev Patel stars in this adaptation of Saroo Brierley’s autobiography. At five years old, Saroo gets lost on the streets of Culcatta, a few thousands kilometres from his home village. After going through a series of ordeals he is adopted by Australian parents. Twenty-five years later Saroo returns to India to find his true home. Directed by Garth Davis.
Railroad Tigers
In this latest Jackie Chan vehicle set in 1941, a band of poor railroad workers become rebel fighters and confront Japanese soldiers. Directed by Ding Sheng.
La La Land
A brightly-coloured musical and Oscar favourite, Ryan Gosling plays down-and-out jazz pianist Sebastian who toils away playing Christmas jingles in bars. He meets Mia (Emma Stone), a barista and aspiring actress who keeps failing at audition. Together they sing and dance their way to their Hollywood dreams. Directed by Damien Chazelle.
The Great Wall
In this Chinese epic, Andy Lau plays a Song Dynasty warrior who teams up with a European mercenary (played by Matt Damon) to defend the Great Wall from attackers, which are not necessarily in human form. Directed by Zhang Yimou.
Dangal
Aamir Khan stars in this drama about an ex-wrestler who trains his daughters to fight in the Commonwealth Games. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
Sausage Party
This is an R-rated cartoon with raunchy jokes, so parents be warned. It revels in a silly set up about various kinds of food that look up to humans as gods but then they find out that the gods like to eat them. The sausages set out to find the true meaning of their lives. Directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon.
Mahasamut Lae Susan (The Island Funeral)
This Thai independent film about a woman who travels to the South to look for her aunt and ends up on a mysterious island has a re-release this week at House RCA. Directed by Pimpaka Towira.
Jumnean-Vivean-Tomorn
Araya “Chompoo” Hargate stars in this vintage romantic comedy as a woman who begs the god at a local shrine to send her a boyfriend. The god sends not one but two. Directed by Rirkchai Puangpetch.
Assassin’s Creed
Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard star in this film adaptation of a popular video game. Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, a criminal who has been sentenced to death. He wakes up, however, to find himself with Sofia (Cotillard) and that he’s actually a descendant of a creed of ancient assassins destined to keep peace on Earth. Directed by Justin Kurzel.

Buster Moon (voice of Matthew McConaughey) is a koala bear who runs a beautiful old theatre. When the bank threatens to close it, he has to come up with a big show — a singing competition for all animals. Featuring the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson and Seth MacFarlane. Directed by Christophe Lourdelet and Garth Jennings.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
In this Star Wars spin-off, Felicity Jones plays Jyn Erso, daughter of the Empire’s chief engineer forced to build a secret weapon. Separated from her father, Jyn is convinced to join the Rebel Alliance and goes on an adventure with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) to various planets in the galaxy to sabotage the evil Empire. Also starring Donnie Yen as a blind warrior and Forest Whitaker as an extremist rebel. Directed by Gareth Edwards.
A Street Cat Named Bob
Based on a best-selling book, the film tells the story of a street busker and recovering drug addict whose life is transformed after an encounter with a stray cat. Directed by Roger Spottiswoode.
