The Colour Of Nature
Green is an answer, of sorts, to bruising 2016, signalling a yearning to rejuvenate and to reconnect to something larger than oneself
After last year’s Kinfolk- ish duo of Rose Quartz and Serenity as Pantone’s Colour of the Year, the slowdown vibes continue into 2017 with Greenery. The hue is richer than 2016’s pairing of pastel, but this fresh and bright shade of green is just the salve the world should embrace, both physically and mentally. As our daily lives become more frenetic, no thanks to the addition of a digital persona to maintain, it helps to have a calming colour to remind us what really matters.
Besides being the refreshing and reinvigorating hue that it is, Greenery is all about going into the green trend full steam — be it eating cleaner, living healthier and being a little less ecologically reckless, especially with the depleting resources humanity may have to face one day. It is also about returning to nature and the real world, in an age when our phone screens manage to dominate our time. If you’re tired and wired, nature is always a revitalising fix that never gets old. Log off and go for a walk to get in touch with the real world, albeit one that’s heart-achingly filled with social and political ills.
The colour of nature can always bring a pop of relaxation to the mind, so even if you don’t have time to go outdoors, surround yourself with this year’s hottest shade of green. Worn all-over, this summery shade will definitely turn heads, but worn in small proportions in accessories it can bring a touch of light-hearted fun to any look. With summer approaching, we select some of the freshest looks and pieces to look out for with this new season. They’ll hit both the high-end and high-street stores soon — and we’ve also thrown in other shades of green besides 15-0343 for mix-andmatching’s sake, as well as a bonus of pieces in other Pantone colours from their Spring 2017 Colour Report for this new fashion season.
