CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
CHINA IN TOWN (Gaysorn Village, Phloenchit Road, today and tomorrow, 11am-5pm) The “Gaysorn China In Town” fair features a Chinese lion dance by Kungpak Thailand Sport Club today at 11am; a Chinese calligraphy demonstration by an expert from Bangkok’s Chinatown today and tomorrow at 1pm; and a guzheng recital from Nataleela Academy at 11.30am, 2.30pm and 5pm also on both days. CHINATOWN AT SEACON (Seacon Bangkae, Phetkasem Road, today and tomorrow, 11am
8pm) The “Chinatown’s Chinese New Year” fair is a chance to pay homage to Chinese deities, have your future read by Chinese fortune tellers and shop for lucky charms and enjoy Chinese dishes from 70 vendors in the atmosphere of Thailand’s Chinatown. There is a performance of King Rama IX’s royal compositions played with Chinese instruments at 2pm and 5.30pm, followed by two stage plays — Grand

HENAN HIGHLIGHTS (in front of CentralWorld, Ratchadamri Road, today and tomorrow at
4pm) “The Great Chinese New Year 2017” presents many cultural performances direct from China — Shaolin kung-fu, acrobatic shows from Luoyang of Henan, Tai Chi martial art, diabolo (Chinese yoyo), a guzheng performance, and a Chinese fiddle recital. There are also several indoor demonstrations of Chinese arts and crafts including Chinese paper cutting, sugar figure blowing, peony painting, peony sculpturing and carving, and cooking demonstrations. HAPPY WEEKEND (Seacon Square, Srinakarin
Road, today and tomorrow, 11am-8pm) The “Ni Hao The Year Of The Rooster” fair features auspicious products and Chinese traditional dishes from 60 shops, two stage plays — Sin Tung written by national artist Prabhassorn Sevikul and
Grandfather Under His Majesty’s Reign, and a music performance featuring King Rama IX’s royal compositions played with Chinese instruments by a troupe from Huachiew Chalermprakiet University. There is no admission fee. Call 02-721-8888.
MAGNIFICENT AND FUN (Siam Paragon, Rama
I Road, today and tomorrow, 5pm-6.30pm) “The Siam Magnificent Chinese New Year 2017” features a mini concert by Pijika Jittaputta, Kai The Voice, Rudklao Amratisha, Film Bongkot, Kong AF and Nat Thewphaingam. There are demonstrations of Chunlian and Duilian calligraphy (a form of auspicious greeting couplets expressing a prosperous year head), Chinese paper-cutting, traditional Chinese knotting and Chinese painting. GREAT ROOSTER (Paradise Park, Srinakarin
Road, 11am-8pm, until Jan 30) The “Paradise Park Chinese New Year: The Great Golden 2017” fair is an opportunity to worship Chinese gods Guan Yu and Tiger and Chinese goddesses Guan Yin and Mazu. On display is a replica of Jade Rooster Archway and a sculpture of a giant golden rooster. There are three rounds of a special lion dance show today at 12.30pm, 3.30pm and 5.30pm. Call 02-787-1000.
CHINESE ACROBATICS (Fashion Island, Ram
Intra Road, 10am-9pm, until Jan 31) The “Chinese New Year 2017” features a number of products, offerings and Chinese cuisine in a Chinatown-street atmosphere. The highlights will be acrobatic shows by two world-class acrobatic troupes from China — Wuqiao today at 4pm and Xinjiang tomorrow at 5pm — as well as dragon and lion dance shows on both days. ROOSTER YEAR (The Promenade, Ram Intra
Road, 11am-8pm, until Jan 31) The “Chinese New Year 2017: Year Of The Rooster” fair features unique merchandise, an art exhibition of traditional Chinese paintings and cultural performances including a live performance of King Rama IX’s royal compositions played with Chinese instruments today, an acrobatic show by world-renowned Wuqiao Acrobatic Troupe today at 6pm, and a lion dance on Jan 29 at 4pm and 6pm. CLOSER TO CHINA (Future Park and Zpell, Phahon Yothin Road, 11am-8pm, until Feb 5) Up to 26 ancient ceramic pieces dating back to the Song, Shang and Tang Dynasties of China are displayed alongside 200 rare photos portraying Chinese culture and way of life during the “Chinese Story” exhibition. It is held as part of the “Make The Perfect Year: Chinese New Year 2017”, which also offers shoppers who spend at least 2,000 baht a chance to have a free fortune-telling service with famous fortune tellers.
