Jackie Chan stars in this Indo-Sino co-production as an archaeolog­ist who teams up with an Indian professor to follow the clues of a lost treasure. The adventure takes them on a ride from a Tibetan cave to the bustle of India and Dubai. Directed by Stanley Tong.

THE FOUNDER

Michael Keaton stars as Ray Kroc, a salesman who turned a little-known fast food eatery, McDonald’s, into one of the biggest restaurant businesses in the world. Directed by John Lee Hancock.

XXX: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE

The third film in the xXx franchise follows athletetur­ned-government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) who is back after being left for dead and living in exile for years. His mission is to take on four dangerous individual­s in possession of a device that controls every military satellite in the world.

JACKIE

Natalie Portman plays Jackie Kennedy in a story set just after the JFK assassinat­ion in Dallas in 1963. Based on a real-life interview with a reporter from Life magazine, the film explores Jackie’s grief, confusion, defiance and her role in the tumultuous chapter of US history. Directed by Pablo Larrain.

THE BYE BYE MAN

When three college students move into an old house off campus, they unleash a supernatur­al entity known as The Bye Bye Man, who comes to prey upon them once they discover his name. The

friends must try to save each other, all the while keeping The Bye Bye Man’s existence a secret to save others from the same deadly fate.

LIVE BY NIGHT

Ben Affleck stars in and directs this gangster film set in the 1920s. He plays Joe Coughlin, a soldier who returns to the US from World War I to work with mobsters. His involvemen­t with bootleggin­g, organised crime and Cuban rum gets him into trouble as Joe tries his best to preserve his dignity and ideals. Also starring Elle Fanning. Directed by Ben Affleck.

OPERATION MEKONG

This Hong Kong action thriller is based on a high-profile news report in 2011. The film tells the story of two Chinese commercial vessels that are ambushed while travelling down the Mekong River near the Golden Triangle. Their sailors are executed and 900,000 methamphet­amine pills are recovered at the scene. The Chinese government immediatel­y sends a band of elite narcotics officers led by Captain Gao Gang (Zhang Hanyu) to uncover the truth. Directed by Dante Lam.

ARRIVAL

When 12 alien spaceships land on different locations on Earth, linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) is summoned by the army to try to establish a communicat­ion with the visitors. As Louise tries to “talk” to the aliens, government­s around the world are jittery and want to declare war on the extraterre­strials. Also starring Jeremy Renner. Directed by Denis Villeneuve.

LA LA LAND

A brightly-coloured musical and Oscar favourite, Ryan Gosling plays down-and-out jazz pianist Sebastian who toils away playing Christmas jingles in bars. He meets Mia (Emma Stone), a barista and aspiring actress who keeps failing at audition. Together they sing and dance their way to their Hollywood dreams. Directed by Damien Chazelle.

THE AGE OF SHADOWS

This Korean spy thriller, the country’s entry to the Oscars, is set in the 1920s during the Japanese occupation. Gong Yoo plays a strategist of the resistance plotting to smuggle explosives from China to Korea and rattle the Japanese rule. To do that, he needs the help of a pro-Japanese Korean police chief (played by Song Kang-ho). Directed by Kim Jee-woon.

LION

Dev Patel stars in this adaptation of Saroo Brierley’s autobiogra­phy. At five years old, Saroo gets lost on the streets of Calcutta, a few thousand kilometres from his home village. After going through a series of ordeals he is adopted by Australian parents. Twenty-five years later Saroo returns to India to find his true home. Directed by Garth Davis.
