The Lego Batman Movie

A spin-off of 2014’s popular The Lego Movie follows an arrogant, macho dude-bro version of Batman and his wide-eyed sidekick Robin as they fight villains old, new and bizarre to save Gotham city from the hands of The Joker. Directed by Phil Lord and Christophe­r Miller.

Moonlight

The drama of human self-discovery tells the life of an African-American gay man, Chiron, as he grows up in a rough neighbourh­ood in Miami. The film chronicles Chiron’s life from his teen years as he is taken in by a kind Cuban drug dealer to his adulthood when he explores his sexuality and reconnects with faces from his past. Directed by Barry Jenkins.

Manchester by the Sea

Directed by Kenneth Lonergan, the film tells a story of Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck), a quiet and reserved handyman for a Boston apartment block, who is asked to take care of his teenage nephew after the boy’s father dies and he is named guardian to his 16-year-old nephew. His return to the past re-opens an unspeakabl­e tragedy.

Fifty Shades Darker

Not long after Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) have broken off their relationsh­ip, they meet at an art exhibition where they rekindle their searing sexual affair. But after a helicopter accident, Christian goes missing and Anastasia starts struggling to cope with loneliness as well as Christian’s past. Directed by James Foley.

Harmonium

The Japanese drama film directed by Koji Fukada tells a story of Toshio who hires his old buddy Yasaka to work in his workshop and offers a room at his house. But then this old acquaintan­ce, who has just been released from prison, begins to meddle in Toshio’s family life.

James McAvoy plays a man with 23 personalit­ies. He kidnaps three young women and locks them up in his basement. They have to try to escape before the violent personalit­y in the man takes control and all hell breaks loose. Directed by M Night Shayamalan.

Miss Sloane

Jessica Chastain plays Elizabeth Sloane, the most sought after and formidable lobbyist in Washington DC, a woman who will use any dirty trick to get what she wants. But when taking on the ruthless gun lobbyists, Slone finds winning may come at a high price. Directed by John Madden.

The Red Turtle

In this animated movie partly produced by Studio Ghibli of Japan, a man is washed up on a remote, deserted island. He tries to build a raft and paddle away, but a big red turtle stops him. It turns out that the turtle is more than just a turtle, and the man’s life will go through a startling transforma­tion. Directed by Michael Dudok de Wit.

American Honey

In this three-hour road movie set in Middle America, Sasha Lane and Shia LaBeouf are part of a travelling magazine sales crew, moving from one small town to another to knock on doors and sell subscripti­ons. Directed by Andrea Arnold.

Monster Trucks

Tripp (Lucas Till) is desperate to get out of his small town. A talented engineer, he builds a Monster Truck from bits and pieces of scrapped cars. After an accident at a nearby oil-drilling site, a subterrane­an creature emerges, and Tripp may have just found the key to getting out of town and a most unlikely friend. Directed by Chris Wedge.
