A spin-off of 2014’s popular The Lego Movie follows an arrogant, macho dude-bro version of Batman and his wide-eyed sidekick Robin as they fight villains old, new and bizarre to save Gotham City from the hands of The Joker. Directed by Phil Lord and Christophe­r Miller.

Moonlight

This drama of self-discovery tells the life of an African-American gay man, Chiron, as he grows up in a rough neighbourh­ood in Miami. The film chronicles Chiron’s life from his teen years as he is taken in by a kind Cuban drug dealer to his adulthood when he explores his sexuality and reconnects with faces from his past. Directed by Barry Jenkins.

Manchester By The Sea

Directed by Kenneth Lonergan, the film tells a story of Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck), a quiet and reserved handyman for a Boston apartment block, who is asked to take care of his teenage nephew after the boy’s father dies and he is named guardian to his 16-year-old nephew. His return to the past reopens an unspeakabl­e tragedy.

In the self-proclaimed final sequel of the violent sci-fi thriller, Milla Jovovich returns as Alice, the last survivor of the zombie apocalypse. The third film in the xXx franchise follows athlete-turned-government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) who is back after being left for dead and living in exile for years. An art student in Kyoto falls in love with a young woman. They become a couple, but the woman has a secret to reveal that will change their relationsh­ip forever. Directed by Miki Takahiro.

La La Land

A brightly coloured musical and Oscar favourite, Ryan Gosling plays down-andout jazz pianist Sebastian who toils away playing Christmas jingles in bars. When 12 alien spaceships land in different locations on Earth, linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) is summoned by the army to try to establish a communicat­ion with the visitors.
