Super Power coach quits after poor run

- TOR CHITTINAND

Super Power Samut Prakan coach Chalermwut Sa-ngarpol has resigned after overseeing a poor start to the season which has left the club at the bottom of Thai League 1 table.

Chalermwut’s decision came after Super Power squandered a one-goal advantage, conceded three and gifted Chonburi their first win of the season on Wednesday night.

Super Power were off to a good start and were put ahead by Anthony Komenan.

However, after Renan Marquez equalised for the Sharks in the 35th minute, Prince Amponsah took only four minutes to tip the balance in favour of the hosts at Chonburi Stadium. Prakit Deeprom scored the third late in the dying moments.

Super Power president Surasak Na Nakhon told a press conference yesterday that Chalermwut had decided to resign.

“Our coach Chalermwut has assumed the responsibility for the team’s lacklustre performance and has quit the job with the game against Chonburi being his last match as the team coach,” said Surasak.

“Our new coach will be Jason Withe, who has just applied for a Thai visa in England and hopes to be with us in time for the next game with Pattaya United this weekend.”

Super Power have not fared well this season and only have one point to their credit from one draw in five matches.

Meanwhile, newcomers Ubon UMT United suffered their first loss of the season on Wednesday night when they went down 3-2 to Navy.

Bangkok United coach Mano Polking’s 100th Thai league match ended in a 3-0 loss to Chiang Rai United.

In other matches, Sukhothai lost 3-0 to Ratchaburi at home and Thai Honda pulled off a surprise 5-1 win over Port in the clash of newly promoted sides.
