THE BROWNKIE
SIRI SWEET HOUSE INVENTS THE ULTIMATE CHEWY “COOKIE”
They don’t have a storefront, but they have something much better — the Brownkie. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Something that looks like a crunchy double chocolate cookie, but tastes like a super dense, highly chewy brownie. Genius.
Having launched late last year, Siri Sweet House, is a new home delivery bakery, specialising in variations of the brownie — because they’ve clearly stumbled on something here. The four options they currently offer are the Brownkie, the Brownkie cup lava, a classic Fudge brownie, and the Browniemallow cake — all reportedly 0% trans fat and low sugar, and here’s why we kinda buy that.
When you bite into a Siri Sweet House brownie recipe, you know right away that they weren’t frugal with ingredients. As brownie nuts, we despise when a brownie is actually a chocolate cake — airy and bouncy. They’re not the same thing, people! It’s worse when low quality chocolate is used and the proper amount is half-substituted by sugar. Ugh. Sacrilege.
Siri thankfully knows that what makes a good brownie is chocolate overindulgence. We had to check up with what they’re using and indeed it’s HQ 70% dark chocolate from France. How they manage to cook a brownie so that it’s a crusty cookie on the outside without compromising the inner texture, however, is beyond us. But secrets keep things fun.
From our experience, we suspect that once you’ve tried Siri Sweet House’s fudgy goodies, the Brownkie (box of six for B350) and Fudge brownies (box of six for B450) will be your recurring orders for a simple rationale of portion-size. A box of nine tiny Brownie cup lavas (B350) is just pure torture if you have nine friends, and with the individual small size just not as satisfactory to bite into as an adult Brownkie. The Browniemallow pie with plump American marshmallows for B400, on the other hand, looks good if you’re having a party and prefer minimal but rich cakes over frilly ones.
