Music, culture meet ecoism on Koh Tao
Music from 20 Thai and international artists, and a number of nature-conservation activities, will be presented at the Tao International Music & Underwater Festival 2017 on Koh Tao, Surat Thani, from March 28-30.
Held for the first time in Thailand with support from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the three-day cultural, artistic and eco-friendly event will feature music from traditional Thai to abstract hip-hop, electro and house, dance, performance, visual art, mapping and graffiti, while placing the environment at the centre of its concerns.
Venues for the daytime fun are on the beach and the ground beside the hill, which will mimic a coconut plantation to simulate the nature-conservation lifestyle.
Starting at 9am, there will be diving activities for children, street-art workshops and an exhibition of photo and artworks by world-famous artists including Alex Face, Cart’1, Monsieur Lupin and Yukijung. These artists will also be creating artworks live at the event.
There will be beach parties featuring DJs from the US, France and the UK, starting at 1pm until sunset. They include Francis Harris and Kevin Yost on March 28, Focal and Trus’Me on March 29 and Naphtaline and Gilles Peterson on March 30.
Taking turns to perform music of various genres nightly will be local and international acts and DJs. The international line-up includes Earl Zinger, Side Effect, Pillowtalk, Santiago Salazar, Alex Barck, Arrested Development and Toshio Matsuura. Participating Thai artists will be T-Bone, Rasmee Isan Soul, Khoon Samarn, Ingphaa, Srirajah Rockers, Skinny Pong and Paradise Bangkok.
The stage will be set on the coconut land and there will be a bar where food, snacks and drinks will be served with biodegradable cutlery and plates made of banana leaves.
