OF CHURROS AND ICE-CREAM

XUGAR THAILAND BRINGS US A SWEET COMBINATION

- STORY & PHOTOS ERIC E SURBANO

When we first heard of Xugar Thailand’s concoction of churros and ice-cream, the first thing that came to our minds was, “Why in the world didn’t we think of this before?” It seemed like a no-brainer and an absolutely brilliant idea. Xugar Thailand brings it to life in a deliciously wonderful way.

Its churros are made under the direction of its Spanish chef, Pepe Lopez; they come in a variety of forms. You can have it flavoured, original or cinnamon (from B89) in a neat little cone-like container with a dip of your choice, for instance chocolate or caramel. If more than one churro is too much for you (which we re

ally doubt), then you can get a looped churro (from B29) which comes in cinnamon, original choco-glazed, or the simple-yet-yummy original. You can also have a churro with a creamfilled centre (B49 for 1pc, B79 for 2pcs) of your choice: caramel, pandan, vanilla, or Nutella.

However, those choices are for those who simply want churros and nothing but churros. But like we said, Xugar Thailand is offering churro goodness that also gives you some relief from the summer heat. While you can go customise your own soft serve loops with the ice-cream, churro loop, and topping of your choice, there are also signature soft serve loops for you to choose from (B159). Chocolate lovers should definitely go for the Choco nutty, served with Belgian chocolate soft serve and a choco churro loop with a crunchy and caramel bottom. If you’re going for a more banoffee feel, Go bananas is your best bet. They’ve also got natural yoghurt ice cream in the Pink Panther, topped with fresh strawberries and a white choco loop.

All of Xugar Thailand’s selections, whether it be churros and dips or soft serve and loops, are not overwhelmingly sweet. In fact, they actually make you want to go back for more. Is that a good thing? We think so!

Xugar Thailand (11am-10pm) is located at Siam Square Soi 7, outside of Center Point, from now until May 15. Follow them via Facebook, fb.com/xugarthailand or IG, @xugarthailand to find out where they’ll pop up next.
